Overview

Delly Up sits on the corner of Main and Wayne in downtown Waynesboro, close enough to the Crozet side of the mountain to be worth the drive. It bills itself plainly as a sandwich and drink shop, and that pairing is the whole idea: a proper sandwich, a cold pint or a glass of wine, and a bar with full views of the downtown action so you can settle in and watch the street go by. You can eat there or take it to go, and you can do the same with the beer and wine.

What to order

The menu runs on sandwiches, and the shop leans into the deli logic in its name. Alongside the sandwiches there are house-made appetizer dips, salads, and sides, so a quick lunch or a longer table can both be built out of the same counter. The pitch they make for themselves is honest about the weekday reality of most eaters: it's tough to get out of the office for a long lunch, so they've made a point of turning around quality food fast. You can grab something cold straight from the fridge or order off the line, and the wait is short enough that they suggest you fill it with a pint.

The bar and the to-go cooler

The drink half of the name is not an afterthought. The bar pours 8 draft beers along with craft cocktails and wine, and the retail side is deep: a wide spread of beer and wine styles you can browse and carry out. Want an IPA or a Cab Sav for later, the shop is set up for that, and part of the fun by their own description is nursing a pint while you stroll the to-go shelves and decide what comes home with you. It's the kind of arrangement that lets the place be two things at once, a lunch counter and a neighborhood bottle shop, without either one feeling bolted on.

The dining room and bar face the street, which is the quiet advantage of the corner location. With draft beer, cocktails, wine, and the sandwich menu in one room, the shop makes an easy case for popping in and staying awhile rather than just grabbing and going.
