Overview

A short drive east of Crozet, in the old industrial buildings that make up Charlottesville's IX Art Park, Three Notch'd brews the beer that started everything. This location on 2nd Street SE is the company's original home and its main production brewery, which means the pours here are about as fresh as beer gets: brewed on site, poured a few feet from where it was made, with new releases turning over regularly enough that the tap list is worth checking before you go.

What's on tap

The brewery leans on rotating, house-brewed beers, and the schedule is deliberately restless: new releases come out through the year, and seasonal and club-pick beers move through the taps rather than sitting still. Recent pours have run from a Big Slice Juicy IPA to a Rodeo Mexi-Lager to summer novelties like a Rocket Pop pint, so the range covers both the hop-forward crowd and people who want something lighter and easier. The craft kitchen is built to sit next to the beer rather than compete with it. The menu pairs elevated pub fare with beer-inspired dishes and seasonal, Virginia-minded ingredients: burgers and shareable plates on one end, chef-driven plates on the other, plus brunch and a happy hour. The room

The space splits between a lively indoor dining room and a spacious covered patio, with a full bar tying the two together. It's a room that flexes: quiet enough for a weekday lunch, busy enough on a Friday or Saturday night that reservations start to matter. The patio is covered, which makes it usable in more weather than most, and well-behaved leashed dogs are welcome out there. The brewery hosts public events on a monthly calendar and takes private bookings too, from small gatherings up to large celebrations, if you're planning something bigger than a table for four.
