Overview

The herd and the beef

Tiffin Farm raises a herd of heritage Red Devon cattle, a hardy old breed, and manages them by rotational grazing, which means moving the animals across the pasture rather than letting them stand and overgraze one patch. It's a practice you choose on purpose, for the soil as much as the cattle. The beef is grass-fed and grass-finished, meaning the cattle stay on pasture through the whole of their lives rather than being sent to grain at the end, and the farm sells a limited amount of it as beef shares. Limited is the operative word here: this isn't a supermarket case, it's a small number of shares off a single rotated herd, so buying is a matter of getting in when they're available.

The brewery

At the edge of the property, with the same pastoral view the wedding guests get, is the brewery. There's outdoor seating and beer on tap, and the appeal is exactly the setting: a pint with the fields and the Blue Ridge in front of you, on a working farm rather than a strip of pavement. What's pouring rotates, so the farm's advice is to check what's on tap before you come.

The brewery keeps a short, weekend-shaped schedule. It's open Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM and Sunday from 3:00 to 7:00 PM, and closed the rest of the week. Those are hours to plan around rather than drop in on: two windows, both in the softer end of the day, which is a fair guess at when the light over the pasture is worth the drive.

Weddings and events

The barn itself is the event venue, and it leans into what it has, which is the land and the mountains. The farm bills it as a setting for weddings along with private, corporate, and fundraising events, twenty minutes from downtown Charlottesville. That distance is the pitch: close enough that guests can get there and back without an expedition, far enough that you're genuinely out in the country, with pasture and Blue Ridge views instead of a hotel ballroom.
