Afton

Afton is the mountain: Rockfish Gap, where the Blue Ridge Parkway and Skyline Drive meet and the Appalachian Trail crosses the highway. For Crozet, it's the western horizon and the best half-day out — the restored Blue Ridge Tunnel walk starts here, straight through the rock Claudius Crozet himself conquered in the 1850s.

The slopes below the gap have filled with cideries, breweries, and vineyards that pour with a fifty-mile view. Go for the tunnel, stay for the sunset.
